Today we didn’t have our music director, so we skipped to the end and learned the finale choreography. This song and this choreography are perhaps the most iconic in musical theatre history. Learning the choreo was fun and at some times challenging because of of the very specific style that is demanded to dance it. Also, the hats. This choreo features rimmed hats, which are an integral part of the choreo. We spent about three hours learning and rehearsing the choreo, but that was just the choreo and not actually singing. So we’re going to have to put that together on another day. But, by around 3:00, we were able to execute the choreo together - of course we didn’t space it or dance it all in the line, but we learned it and did it and now it can only get better.
After that, we reviewed the opening combination and did it in small groups. I felt really confident with myself and the energy I put into the combo. I also feel like my dance training has really paid off. Also, the mirrors as the set were put up, so we could dance in front of them. I think this helped a lot of people in the cast, myself included, have better awareness of their body and how they looked doing the combination. After we finished doing that, we were released from rehearsal early while the director worked with one person on their monologue.
Today, I achieved picking up choreography quickly and accurately. I learned that I’m doing a lot better dance wise than I give myself credit for. Next rehearsal, I’m going to warm up more so I’ll be less likely to injure myself. Today I rushed to rehearsal after coming back from the gym and didn’t give myself time to warm up. I just need to give myself more time.
