Another productive morning. I went for a run through a different part of the Priscilla Beach neighborhood and then drove to the gym for a workout. I'm starting a good routine this summer, and by the end of summer I hope to have significant progress to show for it. Still, it feels good to start new, healthy habits, and I'm glad I have time to exercise in the mornings without having to worry about rushing to class. I feel better when I exercise in the mornings, and I'm more motivated to workout early. After a long day, it's almost impossible for me to go to the gym.
Taking inventory of my body, I've noticed that I'm really sore, especially in my shins and quads. The shins are sore from learning the choreography of the opening, which has a lot of jumps in it. I'm looking forward to the weekend to give my body some much needed rest, and hopefully I'll be able to come into next week fully recovered.
Today’s rehearsal was very exciting. I was chosen to be in the dance break of ‘At The Ballet’, which includes partnering and lifting - something I’ve only gotten to do a couple of times. This is a great opportunity for me because I can put my ballet training to use and gain some experience in partnering. We moved through a decent amount of the show today - finishing the three songs that follow the opening. I feel like we’re utilizing our time efficiently and productively.
Additionally, Priscilla Beach Theatre hosts a kids’ theatre program, which produces shows for children and teens. I was asked to stage manage one of the shows, so I’ll be put in contact with the director and filled in about my responsibilities more specifically in the coming days. I’m glad to be trusted with such a responsibility!
Ultimately, I achieved the ability to say “I’m a dancer” in rehearsal. This means a lot to me, especially because I didn’t start dancing until high school, and I’ve come a long way since then. Today, I learned that I am much more capable than I thought at partnering and lifting. This may be because I’m getting stronger, but still, I surprised myself. Next rehearsal, I’m going to listen to my body more. In preparing, I’m going to look over my lines and solo.
